A free QR Tiger alternative — without the trial countdown.
QR Tiger is the most prominent QR code SaaS — and the most aggressive about the freemium upsell. Watermarks on the free download, a 14-day trial that turns into a paywall, scan limits that disable your already-printed QR codes. Here's a side-by-side with adfreeqr.com.
If you generate QR codes occasionally for personal use, a brochure, a menu, or a one-off event — use adfreeqr.com. If you run a marketing operation that needs scan analytics, A/B testing on landing pages, and team accounts, QR Tiger is built for you, but expect to pay $7–25/month.
What QR Tiger does well
QR Tiger is genuinely a strong product if you're paying. Their dashboard is polished, the dynamic QR system (URLs you can edit after printing) is the cleanest in the industry, and the scan analytics are detailed — country, device, time, custom UTM parameters. For marketing teams running multi-channel campaigns with QR as a touchpoint, it's a defensible buy.
They also have white-label options, API access, and bulk QR generation for enterprise. None of that is what most users actually need.
What QR Tiger's free tier doesn't tell you upfront
- Watermark on every free QR. A "Made with QR Tiger" logo is baked into the corner of the static QR you download.
- 14-day trial of "Pro" features. After 14 days, all your dynamic QRs stop tracking. If you printed any, the scan data just disappears.
- Sign-up required even to test. You can't generate a QR without creating an account first.
- Scan limits on free dynamic QRs. Hit the cap and your QR code stops redirecting — meaning your printed posters or business cards stop working.
- Email marketing. Once you sign up, expect frequent upgrade emails.
What adfreeqr.com does instead
- No watermark, ever. Download a clean 520×520 PNG. What you see is what you get.
- No sign-up. Open the site, generate, download. The whole thing takes under a minute.
- QR codes that never expire. We use static QRs — the URL is encoded directly into the code. No server-side redirect, no scan counter, no kill switch.
- Open source. Read the code on GitHub. Run your own copy on your own server.
- One trade-off: we don't offer per-QR scan analytics. If you need that, QR Tiger remains the right tool.

When to switch from QR Tiger
- You're a small business or individual making 1-50 QRs a year, not a marketing operation
- The trial countdown stress is bigger than the analytics value
- You hate watermarks on something you'll print on a menu or business card
- You want one QR that just works, forever — not a "managed" QR that depends on QR Tiger staying in business
When to stay with QR Tiger
- You're running a marketing campaign and need to A/B test landing pages mid-flight without reprinting
- You need detailed scan analytics — country, device, time, source
- You manage 100+ QR codes and need a team dashboard
- You need bulk generation via API
The key insight: QR Tiger's free tier exists to convert you into a paid customer. adfreeqr.com's free tier exists because we don't have a paid tier. We're an open-source tool, not a SaaS funnel. Different business models produce very different "free" experiences.
The "dynamic vs static QR" honest take
Marketing sites push dynamic QRs because they're the recurring-revenue product. The pitch is "you can edit the destination after printing." That's a real feature — but you only need it if you're running campaigns at scale.
For 95% of QR use cases (restaurant menus, business cards, posters, packaging), a static QR is better: it works forever, doesn't depend on any company staying alive, and doesn't cost anything. Static is what adfreeqr.com generates.
